Jack Carlton Reed
(1930-2009) was an accidental artist with an infamous history
who created an impressive portfolio of pastel paintings while
serving Life in Prison. While Reed’s art work is remarkable in
itself, consisting of photograph life-like images, it is the
colorful provocative history of the artist himself that is most
enthralling.
Reed’s legacy
lives on through his art and memoirs. The creative
quintessential Renaissance man was a one-time self-proclaimed
Pat Boone All-American boy. A world record breaking race car
driver, setting land speed records in the electric powered
Silver Eagle dragster at Bonneville Salt Flats, Reed eventually
took to the skies as a smuggler. After retiring from his work as
a maverick entrepreneur, and before he was apprehended in Panama
to be imprisoned in the U.S., Reed lived an adventurous
primitive Robinson Crusoe lifestyle. His story is remarkable, as
is his art. Select paintings, including limited edition
collectibles, are available for purchase. Reed’s colorful
history and passionate spirit live on today through his art.
